GHOST TOWN NOMADS – EPISODE 1 – GLENRIO, TEXAS & NEW MEXICO
AIR DATE: January 19, 2018 @ 9:00 PM EST
SHOW HOST: Eric Odom – Director of Programming & Development at Square House Creative and Producer of the RV Nomads Motion Picture.
ABOUT GLENRIO: Glenrio was founded in 1903 and began as the village of “Rock Island.” The village was established to serve the Rock Island Railroad and was renamed by the railroad as Glenrio in 1908. By 1917 Glenrio began to play a major role for motorists arriving via the Ozark Trail.
The Ozark Trail was a network of highways that came before the federal highway system and served as a significant motorist transportation backbone until the 1920s when U.S. Route 66 came into reality. In fact, much of what was the Ozark Trail became Route 66.
Glenrio thrived as a prominent paved Route 66 stopover for motorists, playing home to multiple fueling stations, cafes and motels. Like many other towns along Route 66, unfortunately, Glenrio suffered a devastating economic blow in 1973 when Interstate 40 was constructed to the north. By 1976 its businesses began to close down and the town never recovered.
Ghost Town Nomads will be boondocking in the Glenrio area as we film Episode 1 of the show and give you a full look at what the town used to be vs what it is today.
